The Bank Job did not enjoy huge success. The Guardian's film critic gave it one star. However, on Rotten Tomatoes it receives around 70% in both the critic and audience ratings.

The Bank Job is a UK crime film of 2008 penned by screenwriters Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais and directed by Roger Donaldson. It stars Jason Statham. The events depicted in the film are based on the Baker Street robbery which took place in Marylebone, London, some three decades before the film was made, from which the money and valuables stolen were never recovered. The producers claim that the new story was prevented from being published due to a gagging request, supposedly to safeguard the reputation of a key member of the British Royal Family. The producers claim that this movie is intended to unveil the truth for the first time, however it includes several substanital elements of fiction.

What happens?

Terry, a car dealer with a shady past who has started a new family, has always evaded big scams. But, when Martine, a stunning model from his old neighborhood, provides him a lead on a perfect seeming bank hit on London's Baker Street, Terry spots the chance of a lifetime. Martine goes for a roomful of safe deposit containers worth millions in cash and jewelry. The main character is played by Jason Statham who also appeared in other films about organised crime in London, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels as well as its sequel Snatch.
